First week in Kansas Jennifer Shumway Sun, Aug 21, 2022, 8:46 AM to lila.shumway Well I can’t wait to here where you are and how’s it going? It’s been so weird this week to not know where you are. I think my week has gone by super slow because of it. Let me know all about it. Where you are? How’s your comp?how’s your house? What have you been doing? Are you teaching anyone?Anything you can think of I would love to hear. We have gotten so much rain lately. It has just down poured. Dad and I backwashed the pool Friday. I have never seen it so high. It was on the curb part. We went to Emma Neeley’s reception and Tyler whisenants reception last night. Both were great. It was supposed to rain all day yesterday but the weather changed and it was a beautiful day. Sam went to the river with the stake he said he had fun. Carson and ginger came over last night. They went to Tyler’s reception also. Tonight they are coming over for dinner. We are having Hawaiian haystacks rolls and banana cake. They helped me make 50ish headbands yesterday. Now I have 109 finished. Saturday is the party for primary. I got called into pres carpenters office and got released Wednesday night. But they still want us to have the activity. Grandma and grandpa are driving home today from there trip and they are bringing down all your things from Braden’s house. We sold your bed and almost have your room cleaned out to recarpet. Hopefully this week. I played the piano for Gayla 2 times this week. I think I will go Tuesday and Thursday as long as they want me to. It seemed like she enjoyed it. I am so excited to have you write me. I am excited to talk to you also. I love you. Mom Kansas is quite the place! Inbox Lila Shumway Attachments Mon, Sep 5, 2022, 1:24 PM to me Hey everyone! I've been in Kansas for three weeks (?) My trainer's name is sister Garrett, she is super nice and we're getting along really great! I love her! We're serving in a branch in Concordia, Kansas which is a super cute small town! And our whole area is a bunch of small towns really spread out in the middle of nowhere Kansas. The members in our branch are super passionate about missionary work and it's so cool! We're really trying to make the branch a ward. Here are some highlights so far: We are teaching a man named Brett, he is really seeking the "Godly life" as he calls it. He is progressing so well, he's just working on the word of wisdom and then he can be baptized! He is super faithful and we're so excited! We're volunteering at a place called Neighbor to Neighbor. It's set up by the catholic church and it's just a place people can come and spend time with others. People can come paint, sew, or bake. They allow people to do laundry there and there's a play area for kids. There's a lot of super sweet old ladies that go to hang out! We put our friend Tracy on date to be baptized! She was previously struggling with giving up coffee but then she realized that baptism is WAY more important! She is so awesome and has an amazing testimony. We are teaching a couple of kids and they're so cute and so curious! We met their mom while we were out knocking doors. she said she wasnt interested in our message, but she brought her kids out to listen to us. They were so excited when we started giving them free books and pamphlets to read. We are reading the picture book Book of Mormon with them. We have the primary program coming up in a couple of weeks, so we're really hoping that they kids can come and get really excited about church! Everyone here is pretty nice, even when they're not interested in our message. We talk to a lot of elderly people who like to tell us their whole life story. It's funny how much of their personal lives they're willing to share with the sister missionaries, like VERY personal life things haha! I invite you to read Alma 5 sometime this week! It is an amazing chapter, my favorite verse from the chapter is 60 And now I say unto you that the good shepherd doth call after you; and if you will hearken unto his voice he will bring you into his fold, and ye are his sheep; and he commandeth you that ye suffer no ravenous wolf to enter among you, that ye may not be destroyed. Jesus Christ is the Good Shephard and He will protect us if we come unto Him! I love you and miss you all so much, but Kansas is a blast! Love, your girl, Sister Shumway
