Peter Steimle Attachments Thu, Jun 22, 6:26 PM to me, jonirollins55@gmail.com Hello Moms & Dads, I was a missionary dad recently so I'm guessing that you'll appreciate this pic of your daughter. Your daughter, OUR missionary. 🙂 We've been meeting for a couple months with Terry Lewis (in the green t-shirt), and he has made amazing progress, reading the entire Book of Mormon in just a few weeks, giving up old habits, attending church, etc, etc. The Lord is certainly working through the Holy Ghost and your daughter (OUR missionary). Terry is hoping to get baptized soon and since I'm the ward family history coordinator, and Terry wants to occupy his free time with positive activities, we decided to help him prepare some of his ancestors records so that he can go to the temple and be baptized for them within a month or so after Terry is baptized. We don't want him to feel like he's reached the top and had to stop and... (Jungle Book movie reference). Anyw...
THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS KANSAS WICHITA MISSION 7011 East 13th Street North Wichita, Kansas 67206-1219 20 Jul 2023 Dear Sister Lila Shumway, Congratulations on your assignment to serve as a Trainer. After prayerful consideration, this assignment has come to you from the Lord. There is no other assignment that rises above that of a Trainer. Training is a position of sacred trust from the Lord and from your mission president. You may feel under- qualified. Remember that our dear prophet, President Monson has taught “Whom God calls God qualifies.” You are not alone, your new missionary comes to you endowed with power so that they can help, lift, and testify immediately and be a strength to your companionship. The ultimate compliment to you as a Trainer is if in 12 weeks your new missionary is ready to train if called upon. As you approach this calling, consider this very important thought. The parents and family and loved ones of your new missionary have prayed ...
Woaah we're half way there! Inbox Lila Shumway Mon, Apr 24, 11:58 AM to me Google photos link: https://photos.app.goo.gl/oN9FXxgjYYKphHnw8 Hey everyone! This was a crazy week! You might be able to guess from my title, but this week will be my nine month anniversary of being set apart as a missionary! It has been the most amazing and challenging experience of my life and I can't wait for the next nine months! So I can never remember what happens on Tuesday, so we'll start with Wednesday! We had DCM and deep cleaned our apartment (it's a requirement to deep clean the Wednesday before transfers). And then we met Breshaun!! Breshaun is so cool and so excited to start rebuilding his relationship with God. He is so excited to read the Book of Mormon and start coming to church regularly. So we are so excited about breshaun! He and his family could use lots of prayers though, so if you could pray for him, that would be amazing! Thursday we met Marva! Marva was found by the...
The hope of the atonement! Goodmorning brothers and sisters! My name is sister Shumway, I'm from Gilbert, Arizona and I've been a missionary for 9 months. And I've been in your ward for about 5 weeks and it is so much fun! One of my favorite general conference talks was given by president Boyd K Packer in 1995, and it's titled the brilliant morning of forgiveness. In this talk, President Packer answered a question that I didn't even know that I had. We know that repentance is a process. First we have to recognize our mistake and feel Godly sorrow, second confess and forsake, third make restitution, and fourth strive to be better! But the third step, restitution, can be really hard, maybe even impossible in some cases. President Packer said… "To earn forgiveness, one must make restitution…But sometimes you cannot give back what you have taken because you don’t have it to give…There are times you cannot mend that which you have broken. Perhaps the offense wa...
Comp study with a member of the seventy Inbox Lila Shumway Mon, Apr 17, 1:18 PM to me Hey everyone! I hope you had a great week! It was another great week here in Kansas! On tuesday, we had a mission tour, which basically means that a general authority took a tour of our mission and visited each zone! So we had Elder Ojideran come visit us (for reference, he gave the last prayer at General Conference). A few days before, our mission president, President Barr, asked sister Glass and I to come early and have a planning session and companion study with them! Haha we were pretty nervous, but we actually had a planning session and comp study with Sister Barr and Sister Ojideran. They basically just ended up talking to us, telling us stories, and bearing their testimonies to us haha. A fun little miracle from this week: Sister Glass and I were trying to find a member of our congregation who has not been to church in a long time and who we thought moved away (that's what our notes tol...
Easter Miracles!!! Inbox Lila Shumway Mon, Apr 10, 10:19 AM to me Hey everyone! I'm so sorry it's been so long since I've sent out an email, so here's an update! I am no longer in Hutchinson! I was there for a short 6 weeks and then was transferred right back to wichita, except now I'm in the auburn hills ward and it's been so fun! I'm also follow up training Sister Glass and she's so amazing! General Conference was wonderful! I was so excited! I was really able to pick out some big themes this conference like finding peace and ending contention in our lives by following the example of Jesus Christ/having charity! Right after General Conference, we had Zone Conference! Sister Glass and I were definitely spiritually fed and we were able to see some really cool miracles this week! A fun way Sister Glass and I choose to knock on doors is, we pick a certain color in the morning (usually prompted by the spirit) and if we see a house that color while we a...
UPDATES from kansas♡ Inbox Lila Shumway Mon, Mar 6, 5:02 PM to me Hey everyone! Here's a few highlights from the past few weeks in Hutchinson, Kansas! *I ate cow tongue tacos (they were actually really good, I highly recommend) *I chopped my hair off *we met Leon! We were visiting a member in our ward and we decided to knock on the blue house across the street! A man answered and he was so excited to see us. He lived in Utah 15 years ago and knew exactly who we were, and he wanted a Book of Mormon! A dilemma... he speaks mostly Spanish. So we gave him an El Libro De Mormon and now we're working on our spanish, haha pray for me because I don't know ANY Spanish! *we did so much service this week and it was so fun! Tuesday we did some heavy lifting hauling some tree branches around in someone's back yard. Wednesday we did service at the animal shelter and played with puppies! Friday we moved boxes to the basement for a sister in the ward. And we cleaned gutters! *I...
Nov 28 Inbox Jennifer Shumway Sun, Nov 27, 2022, 8:52 AM to lila.shumway Good morning. We just got to church early so I thought I would take this moment to write. Valerie Hodgeson is playing the organ today. I play next week and Christmas Sunday. Bro Shaffer is going to search today. I always enjoy him speaking to us. Sam Is getting the sacrament ready. He is such a good boy. I have been so blessed with such great people as my kids. I am so excited to hear about the baptism how did it go? Did she come to church and get confirmation today. Or did she get confirmed at her baptism? Charlie has been sick. They took him to the urgent care yesterday and he had a ear infection. His green nose said he had something. He started on antibiotics and he woke up much happier. He wanted to go to the park. Braden stayed home with him from church. They were talking about going to the No park. What’s happening week? I feel like we talked often last week. I wish that was every week. I miss yo...

CRAZY AWESOME MIRACLES! Inbox Lila Shumway Mon, Nov 21, 2022, 3:25 PM to me Hey everyone! This week was amazing! I am so thankful I was able to witness some miracles from God this week! Okay here we go! So we'll start with Monday. I had the feeling we should call brother and sister Martuscello, because I absolutely LOVE them! Brother Martuscello didn't pick up but that's okay (I promise this part is important later). Fast forward to Tuesday, Sister Briggs and I were out driving and we saw our friend Mallory on the side of the road walking her dog (Mallory is our amazing friend who is getting baptized either this week or next). It was definitely meant to be, so we parked our car and ran to catch up with Mallory. She tells us that she lost her job out of nowhere! But she's so faithful! She said she wasnt freaking out because she knows God has something better in store for her. Fast forward to Wednesday, brother Martuscello calls us back and asks if we know of anybody...

Oh and those of you who know Elder Cole Decker, we are actually in the same district now, so thats fun! We put another friend on date to be baptized, Cleave! I turned 20 on Saturday and went on an exchange with Sister Hunt and had a lot of fun! Thank you to everyone who messaged me/sent me an email to wish me a happy birthday! I can't use messenger to message friends, but I really really appreciated all of the birthday wishes and I'll try to email you all next week! I love you all! Love, Sister Shumway

Another week in Kansas! Inbox Lila Shumway Attachments Mon, Oct 10, 2022, 3:12 PM to me Hey everyone! I LOVE KANSAS! this week had its ups and downs, but it was so amazing! Last pday was a zone pday and I got to see my amazing mtc companion Sister Anderson! That was super exciting because I missed her a lot! The zone was playing some pickleball and this nice old man bought us all pizza! He didn't even know who we were, Kansas has the best people honestly. This week we started teaching our friend Jake! He is doing so good and loves to read the Book of Mormon with us. Jake is always so nice and he said he's trying to turn his life around and knows that we can help him. Jake really wanted to come to church this week, so we got him a ride and set everything up. But Sunday morning, Jake wasn't answering his phone:( so he didn't come to church. We still haven't heard from him so please pray for Jake! Tina is also one of our friends who could use your prayers! She has...

TRANSFERS Inbox Lila Shumway Attachments Mon, Oct 3, 2022, 12:58 PM to me HEY EVERYONE! if you know me, you know that I am the WORST at texting people back. So I know none of you are surprised that I'm also not the best at writing my mission emails, but my mom said I had to. So I finished up my time in Concordia and it was honestly so amazing! I loved that little branch and our friends so much! Sister Garrett and I really thought we would be staying there for another transfer. But we woke up Monday morning and were surprised with the news that we would both be transferring! We were very sad:(((. I am now in the Riverside Park area in Wichita, Kansas! And sister Garrett is my STL, so I still get to see her sometimes! My new companion is Sister Dockstader and she is amazing! This is her last transfer so we have to make it a good one! General Conference was so so so wonderful this weekend! ALL of the talks were so inspiring, my favorites were President Nelson, Elder Pearson, and ...
Kansas is quite the place! Inbox Lila Shumway Attachments Mon, Sep 5, 2022, 1:24 PM to me Hey everyone! I've been in Kansas for three weeks (?) My trainer's name is sister Garrett, she is super nice and we're getting along really great! I love her! We're serving in a branch in Concordia, Kansas which is a super cute small town! And our whole area is a bunch of small towns really spread out in the middle of nowhere Kansas. The members in our branch are super passionate about missionary work and it's so cool! We're really trying to make the branch a ward. Here are some highlights so far: We are teaching a man named Brett, he is really seeking the "Godly life" as he calls it. He is progressing so well, he's just working on the word of wisdom and then he can be baptized! He is super faithful and we're so excited! We're volunteering at a place called Neighbor to Neighbor. It's set up by the catholic church and it's just a place peo...

First week in Kansas Jennifer Shumway Sun, Aug 21, 2022, 8:46 AM to lila.shumway Well I can’t wait to here where you are and how’s it going? It’s been so weird this week to not know where you are. I think my week has gone by super slow because of it. Let me know all about it. Where you are? How’s your comp?how’s your house? What have you been doing? Are you teaching anyone?Anything you can think of I would love to hear. We have gotten so much rain lately. It has just down poured. Dad and I backwashed the pool Friday. I have never seen it so high. It was on the curb part. We went to Emma Neeley’s reception and Tyler whisenants reception last night. Both were great. It was supposed to rain all day yesterday but the weather changed and it was a beautiful day. Sam went to the river with the stake he said he had fun. Carson and ginger came over last night. They went to Tyler’s reception also. Tonight they are coming over for dinner. We are having Hawaiian haystacks rolls and ban...
Happy Sunday Inbox Jennifer Shumway Attachments Sun, Aug 14, 2022, 9:36 AM to lila.shumway Good morning! I hope you had a wonderful week. Tomorrow when you call I should be able to take some time off and talk. Last week turned out pretty good for a first week of school. Monday was pretty busy. I have to call every student that didn’t show up for school to see if they were still coming to school. Then the next day call everyone over again. I have to do that till day 10. I am now about 10 kids that I have not heard from that I will be calling. The first day was like almost 200 phone calls. I am excited they got someone to be in the front office instead of me. Yay!!! Grandma and grandpa are on the way to Utah right now. They left this morning. They are making there way up to Idaho to see grandpa’s brother. And get honey. They took James and megs baby shower things and will bring home your stuff and some of Braden’s things. That was super nice of them. I hope you got some treats t...

Leaving the MTC! Inbox Lila Shumway Hey everyone, what's up! To all of my friends who are preparing to serve missions, get hyped for the MTC because it's a blast! (Even though the food at the cafeteria is literally the exact same food they serve at the BYU Cannon Center so I was sick of it a loooong time ago). My district is the best district around, I seriously could not ask for a better district. We've played a lot of volleyball, speed, and around the world haha. We've had so many hours of classes and devotionals. And one thing my district really liked to do together was to go to a random classroom with a piano and Elder Lemon would freestyle on the piano while Elder Hone and a few other elders would freestyle rap, it was super hype! My district has really become a family and it has been so hard to say goodbye. Half of our district left this morning and the rest of us leave tomorrow morning:((( Sister Anderson (my comp) and I were called to be Sister Training Lead...
