to me
Hey everyone! I needed to let you all know that the missionary standards have changed and I won't be using Facebook messenger anymore to communicate with friends. so if you want to talk, send me an email!
Our friend Bob is getting baptized this Saturday! Please pray for him and that everything will go smoothly! We had a couple lessons with Bob this week. We taught him about tithing and he has already pulled out money from his bank account so that he can pay tithing. He wants his tithing money to go specifically to the missionary fund, because he appreciates us so much. Bob asked if we would stop coming over once he is baptized. He doesn't want us to stop coming over, he is so kind. We assured him that we can keep visiting him even after he is baptized:)
Last night we had some tender mercies. The members in our ward haven't been signing up to feed us dinner lately and i have no idea why. We have been pretty sad about it. But yesterday, a sister in the ward called us and invited us to dinner! We had waffles:)
We had a lesson planned with one of our friends after dinner, but he had to reschedule. We decided to go visit the Hafoka family instead! We hadnt really planned on going over there because i had kinda lost hope. The dad in the family is a member of the church but he hasnt come in years, and his wife and their 4 kids are not members. I have been trying to contact this family ever since I got to Lawrence about 3 months ago. They have been super busy and are basically never home. But this time they were finally home, and it was their oldest son's 16th birthday! They invited us in and we chatted for a little bit. They are such a kind and fun family. The oldest son played piano for us because his mom begged him to. He is very good! I felt like we should share alma 26:36-37 with them.
36 Now if this is boasting, even so will I boast; for this is my life and my light, my joy and my salvation, and my redemption from everlasting wo. Yea, blessed is the name of my God, who has been mindful of this people, who are a branch of the tree of Israel, and has been lost from its body in a strange land; yea, I say, blessed be the name of my God, who has been mindful of us, wanderers in a strange land. 37 Now my brethren, we see that God is mindful of every people, whatsoever land they may be in; yea, he numbereth his people, and his bowels of mercy are over all the earth. Now this is my joy, and my great thanksgiving; yea, and I will give thanks unto my God forever. Amen.
We testified that God is aware of them! We asked them how they have seen God's hand in their lives. They said that God sent them a great blessing by sending the missionaries to their house that night. ♡
That's just a quick update and a small glimpse of the tender mercies and miracles that we see as missionaries! I love you guys and would love to hear from you!
Love, your favorite missionary, Sister Shumway<3
